About Jen
I’m so glad that you’ve taken the time to browse through my website and hope you’ll take just a little more time to get to know who I am.
Being a therapist is more than my “job” – I’ve found a true passion in helping people work through their relational and sexual concerns. Clients have described me as warm, approachable, genuine and compassionate. I take an interactive approach to counseling and use a combination of empathy, humor and encouragement to allow my clients to feel open and comfortable in therapy. By continually supporting and gently challenging my clients, I am able to help them re-discover their own self-awareness on the path to creating richer and more fulfilling lives. I consider myself fortunate to have a career that I truly love, helping my clients to solve their problems and overcome the difficult circumstances that life throws at us all.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Certified Sex Therapist (CST) and Certified Sex Therapy Supervisor (CSTS). For my CST, I was supervised by Dr. Neil Cannon, AASECT Ethics Committee Chair. And for my supervisor credential, I was supervised by Doug Braun-Harvey and Sally Valentine. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have trained with some of the most influential experts in the field of sex therapy, including but not limited to: Doug Braun-Harvey, Joe Kort, Justin Lehmiller, David Ley, Emily Nagoski, Gina Ogden and Esther Perel.
I have presented and taught for the Sexual Health Alliance, including leading numerous cutting edge SARs and Advanced SARs (SARs, Sexual Attitude Reassessments, are required trainings for aspiring sex therapists) that have challenged boundaries for those professionals. I’ve also taught for the Denver Sexual Medical Alliance (DSMA), a collaborative group comprised of local doctors, sex therapists and other relevant health professionals in a collaborative environment designed to facilitate cross-professional learning. Additionally, I have spoken for several local university classes on sexuality and relationship therapy.
To keep myself current and informed of latest trends in the field of sexuality, I belong to numerous professional organizations including the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR), the Sexual Health Alliance (SHA) and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) where I present, volunteer and take part in additional workshops and training. The time I spend as a member of these professional associations allows me to continue my professional education so I can stay current with the latest therapy trends and tools available for my clients and me.
My counseling career began almost 20 years ago in the Michigan education system, where I was a high school counselor. For seven years, I worked with adolescents and their families to overcome the many challenges teens and families face, and these experiences opened my eyes to the dire need for relational therapy – not just for my students, but for the adults in their lives as well. I often heard, “I wish you could be my outside therapist – my new therapist just doesn’t get me like you did,” and suddenly something clicked for me.
When my family relocated from the green landscapes of Ann Arbor, Michigan to the majesty of the Front Range, I’d already completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Interpersonal Communications from Michigan State University, and degrees in English and Psychology (as well as a teaching certification) from the University of Michigan to go along with my Masters in Counseling from Oakland University, which is a fully accredited Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) institution.
I then added a Marriage and Family Therapy certification from The Denver Family Institute (DFI), an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) accredited post-graduate program. The capstone of my continuing education journey came from the University of Michigan’s Sexual Health Certification Program, where I learned about sexual health and anatomy from some of the most accomplished doctors and therapists in the country. Between my incredible instructors at UofM, DFI and all of my amazing mentors and supervisors, I believe I have received some of the best relationship and sex therapy training available.
From an original focus on individualized therapy to my current concentration on relationship and sex therapy, I continue to evolve my practice and expertise through ongoing trainings and consultations with the best teachers and mentors in my field across the globe. I’m a deeply skilled, highly sought-after therapist who can help you find that thing you’re searching for, whether that’s balancing your sexual relationships with the challenges of a demanding career, exploring horizons that you never thought you’d consider, or repairing a treasured relationship damaged by trauma.
If we’re able to work together, I look forward to investing in you to help you grow and become the person you dream of being so you can live your best life.
